Fire Safe – Frequently Asked Questions

A selection of frequently asked questions about the Fire Safe System:

Does the System comply with I.S. 3218:2009?

Yes the system is compliant with all relevant parts of the new standard for in-building fire alarms which includes paging for people who are deaf, I.S. 3218:2009.

Does the System comply with BS5839-1 2002?

Yes the system is compliant with all relevant parts of the new British Standard for in-building fire alarms which includes paging for people who are deaf, BS5839 part 1 2002.

The standard suggests a radio license is needed, is this true?

As the operating frequency used by the Fire Safe system is wireless licence exempt, no licence is required. Other systems operating on a different frequency may require a licence.

What do I need to make up a system?

The system must include a Pager & Charger or SignWave, and at least one Interface Panel. A vibrating Pillow Pad can be used to alert the user whilst they sleep.

How do visitors know that the Fire Safe System is installed?

Entrance notices are supplied with the system to advise visitors that the Fire Safe is installed and how to log onto it using their own home Pager. The notice also advises visitors that additional pager units are available at reception.

What is the operating range of the system?

In open air the system will operate up to a distance of 1000 metres. This will be less within a building and will depend upon its structure. In larger buildings it is possible to include more than one Interface Panel.

Can any other system affect the SA3000 system?

No the SA3000 system operates on a specially allocated frequency and uses a protocol unique to our product?

Is the SA3000 home Pager system widely used?

Yes the SA3000 paging system is widely used throughout the country and is the leading paging system used by people who are deaf.

What happens if someone borrows a pager and forgets to return it to reception?

If a visitor leaves the building and forgets to return a Pager to reception then the Pager will vibrate and all lights will flash 6 times. This will continue every five minutes and acts as an effective reminder for the user to return the pager.
